Project Background

The design intent for this project was to create privacy from the tall buildings surrounding the rooftop patio, shielding the rooftop space itself from the visual and audible clutter of the road below, the surrounding rooftops, and the mechanical pieces surrounding the area. The site required a high wind-load resistant and structural solution due to winds, snow loads, and exposure on the top story of the building. Lastly, rooftop decks are notoriously high maintenance areas when it comes to vegetation, and so a low maintenance option was needed.

Approach

Parasoleil panels provided the shade and screening elements needed for this rooftop deck while the Liberty Vertigris finish hinted at the “green wall” look. Because there is no vegetation in or around the panels, maintenance is essentially zero. The Onion pattern allows for air flow and the maximum visual barrier needed, as well as, dynamic aesthetic interest. Both of the shade and screen structures used the same pattern. The patented Parasoleil Bracket System ensures the structural integrity of the rooftop installation.
